Landscaping & Lawn Care Victoria, BC

Whether you require someone to mow your grass, clean up the Fall leaves, manage your flower beds, shovel snow, or even work on commercial grounds, we have the knowledge and expertise to handle any of your outdoor services.

One of our passions is to create healthy lawns that are lush, and outdoor spaces that are an oasis. Whether it's grass, plants, flowers or trees, the health of each of these living things begins with a strong, nurturing foundation. It's what's underneath the organic material that makes the difference.

Healthy soil, free of chemicals, such as pesticides, insecticides, pests and weeds, gives the roots the energy required to grow strong.

Water is, of course, a key ingredient. Too much is just as bad as not enough. One of our goals is to keep lawn and garden care as low maintenance as possible for each of our clients. This is when our irrigation and sprinkler specialists will review the data we collect during our assessment and then will make suggestions based on budget and time.

Another important component is the amount of sunlight the outdoor space it will get daily, as well as seasonally. In cases where there can be too much or too little sun, we may suggest a different species of grass designed to better thrive in your environment.

Traffic is also important. Lawns are great to walk on but too much traffic on a grass covered area can lead to degradation of both the surface and under surface areas. In cases such as this, we may suggest a solutions such as a brick path be installed in order to protect the integrity of the area.

There's no job to big or too small. We love working in the various neighbourhoods in the Greater Victoria area. Our approach to beautiful green grass is to begin with proper installation. This is much easier when starting a project from scratch.

However, for many of us we have inherited whatever ground covering already in place when we bought a house, for example, and may or may not have or have taken the time to pay the proper amount of attention to it in order to help it recover. Over time this becomes a bit of a mess with moss and weeds growing and choking out what could become a green lawn.

There is still hope. Sometimes a gentle restoration will be enough to reclaim a specific area. In other cases the best approach is to clear the land and start over.

  • Warm-season grasses: These grasses grow best in warm climates and are often used for pasture, erosion control, and landscaping. Examples include Bermuda grass, Zoysia grass, and St. Augustine grass.

  • Ornamental grasses: These grasses are grown for their attractive appearance and are often used in landscaping and garden design. Examples include fountain grass, feather grass, and Japanese silver grass.

  • Native grasses: These grasses are indigenous to a particular region and are often used for prairie restoration, erosion control, and wildlife habitat. Examples include big bluestem, little bluestem, and Indian grass.

  • Cereal grasses: These grasses are grown for their edible grains and are important crops worldwide. Examples of these types of grass include wheat, barley, oats, and rice.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How much does it cost to have my lawn mowed?

That depends on varying factors. Each yard is unique. We come out and survey your property and then will provide you with a quote. An average-sized lawn will run you about $60 per cut. We offer a one-time service, as well as on-going maintenance if you require it. Please give us a call or fill in our request for a quote form and we'll get back to you.

  • How often should my lawn be mowed?

This will shift over the course of the growing season. Initially, when the domant grass is woken up, it is a bit slower to grow. Daylight and temperature are part of that consideration. Mid-season the grass should be cut weekly to keep it in top-notch shape and curb appeal.

  • What should I do with my grass clippings?

For most people the clippings are collected and piled up in the corner of the backyard somewhere, or taken away to the local dump. Both of these are not the best answer for the grass. By leaving the clippings on the fresh-cut lawn, they break down and become rich fertilizer, helping to thicken the grass, making it healthier.

  • When should I stop having my lawn mowed?

The simple answer is when the grass stops growing. Depending on the region you live in, that could be a longer or shorter season. In the Victoria area, residential grass cutting stops, or drastically is reduced by mid to late November. However, commercial buildings may continue year-round in this region.

  • When should I prune my trees?

Different trees have different dormant seasons. Most are best to be pruned in the late winter to early spring, while they are still dormant. However, not all trees will follow this rule. The best thing to do is consult with an expert before pruning or trimming.

  • When should I plant my garden?

In the Victoria region, we are considered a sub-mediterranean climate. We do have mild winters but still need to consider the threat of overnight frost until at least mid-April to be safe. Planting perennials in April and then followed by annuals in May is a good schedule to start various types of plants in your garden.
